Root Tapper Beer Game

Thoughts 1 - The Sorrows of Young writer

The post deals with questions that all aspiring writers sooner or later have to face while working to create a text.

insecurity of writing

I am convinced that every aspiring writer like me has been put many times the question "Why write?". It 's a matter of course, find the motivation at all costs (or justification) this passion.
When someone asks me "Why do you write?" I would answer with another question: "Has anyone ever asked why do you live? No, but you do." I consider writing a natural, inherent in the personality of each. Then there are those who get to make it a passion or, in more fortunate cases, a job and a livelihood to pay the mortgage.
you know so why do a certain thing, in our case (mine and those who are reading this post) this is understood as "writing" is an important step toward its understanding, a factor that will help get the most benefit possible .
Above all, know why it helps you write better.

There are four questions that I jump in head and frequently are:

 • Why do I write?
 • What inspires me to do?
 • What is my purpose?
 • What do I feel as I write?
 • not think you consider yourself a writer in vain?

Finding answers to these questions is not easy but essential. I will try in this post and I think every aspiring writer should try to do the same. Maybe we could do it together, no?

Why do I write?

As I said at the beginning of this post, because there is no well-defined. It 'a desire that lives inside of me, my nature, an incredible force that pushes me to put myself in front of the PC and start beating on the keyboard.
I've always loved writing since childhood. Maybe because I've always been a reader (an avid reader) and this has prompted me to wonder many times how it feels to be "other side" to try it out.
I think if you feel a force, an almost physical need to write up stories and then you have to do a priori, without considering the pros and cons of this activity.

What inspires me to do?

Obviously anyone or anything. Certainly not the dreams of glory. I am well aware that very little was invested in young people in Italy (in general) and even fewer in young writers. The publishers do not publish if you do not pay, the public does not "shit" to smear unknown authors, the chances of success are minimal.
This is good to put it in head start.
If you want to write with the sole purpose of making money then it is better to open a bar or find another way.
Writing is a passion almost counterproductive because it requires numerous and intense effort and pays off with a few crumbs. But those crumbs are still steeped in satisfaction, many satisfaction.
The only thing that needs to push to write is the passion, combined with the fact of "wanting to say something." This does not mean that you necessarily have to have something to say (including "mean something" and "having something to say" there is the same difference between my Fiat Punto and the BMW M3 of my head).
mean something means having the strength and passion to follow their own ideas, challenge them and make them travel.

What is my purpose?

Well, of course, every writer's dream: to become the new Garcia Marquez, Coelho and Stephen King. To be successful, selling millions of copies, to ensure that students write the sentences in my novels or diaries on the links of social networks, become filthy rich and live only in writing, see my books made into movies.
a dream but why not do everything to ensure that you achieve?
Obviously my goal right now is much more down to earth: fun.
It is not just a wish, it is also an obligation that I have imposed. The day I realize that writing does not give me more joy, then stop.
But until then, woe to me from these moments.

What do I feel as I write?

Well, here things get complicated.
I write because I feel a rush inside, creative ecstasy that covers me and does nothing but ricondurmi of my characters, the story I'm creating, deleting the rest. When I write, I walk away from the world, are in another place, another world, another life, where there is only my story and the sound of my fingers on the keyboard.
E 'an uncontrollable frenzy, a desire to throw out everything I have in mind, giving it a complete form.
When I finished I feel good. This is the only thing that matters.

not think you consider yourself a writer in vain?

often happen to have this question walking around your head. Especially as there was always insecure, almost devoid of self-esteem and you are not aware of their abilities. Otherwise we would not be artists, no?
I think being a writer means being able to turn ideas into words, sentences, paragraphs and so on. Being able to give them a form and a substance that takes shape through the pages.
It means knowing how to convey an emotion in anyone who reads a small excerpt of your composition. Any kind of emotion, even negative.
be a writer is able to convey emotions to the reader.
Being a writer means to seduce and keep the reader glued to your pages. This means to me be a writer. Regardless of the sales.

Symptoms Of A Copd Exaserbation

Article 3 - Overcoming fear of the blank page

This article discusses techniques to overcome the fear of the blank page and the fear of not having more ideas to continue writing. It also explains the mechanisms of brainstorming and drawing mind maps.

not have more ideas to continue

In two previous articles we saw how to take inspiration from simple images or ideas (a banana, a table, a cloud) to start the flow of mind that leads to the writing of texts and which arise in the mind of the writer a whirlwind of ideas and thoughts that would make the story you will write.
In this article we analyze the next steps that make writing a text and the creation of a story.
We have the idea. We analyzed
.
We wrote something and we realized that this is a good idea.
What's next?

Well, as it is difficult to continue say.
Each of us follows a path and its very special is only valid for that work. For example, I wrote "Ariadne's Thread" in two weeks, taken from a creative rush that made me invent situations and characters continuously, without interruption. "The delicate sound of time" instead took a year's time, a lot of documentation (we will discuss in another article), traveling on places to acclimatize, many drafts and discarded many ideas.
So what will happen "after" having had the idea and have it settled in my mind is a phase that will prove to be different for ciasciun writer.
Taking the example of Paulo Coelho, you are facing an ocean boundless. Your boat is your idea, your paddles are made by your imagination. As you write lodge deeper and deeper into this ocean and encounter the islands. You might decide to stop or not to sail to the farthest to the east or the one closest to the south decide to go south in fact excluding the route to the East
So every choice you make is extremely important and binding.
Even the most simple and seemingly stupid (for example, whether the protagonist has a mustache or not) will force you to follow a certain direction (if you decide that your protagonist has a mustache, therefore, must be an adult, he will not follow the treatments such as chemotherapy and may not have a birthmark on her lip, because otherwise you would see).
This theorem: each choice excludes the other, it is very important.
Because what counts in a story that is both realistic, plausible, it must seem real. The reader will not be fooled!
you say: "And the science fiction novels?". Even in this case is to the principle that every choice you make will exclude the others. For example, if you decide to set your story in a future where the polar ice caps have melted, you can not send the hero in Antaritide him or keep a diary on paper, since it would be impossible to produce it.

The fear of continuing to have no ideas or to find them all useless and insipid that all the writers of the world have experienced is called "fear of the blank page." The classic and famous writer's block. It 's a fear strongly related to the activity of writing and you must not think of feeling "alone". Everyone sooner or later they are caught.

Well, now we will see what are the techniques that will help overcome this fear.

brainstorming and mind maps

A hand to be able to untangle the maze of choices, we are given by the activity of brainstorming.
This write on a sheet and the appropriate links, anything you can think about that idea, although at first glance may seem far-fetched or stupid.

Innanizitutto take time for you that you are ten minutes or an hour does not matter, you will find a time when you are sure not to be influences. Sit in a quiet place that is neither cold nor hot, vestivevi in a comfortable, turn off phone, computer, connected to the Internet and television. Close your eyes for ten seconds and then reopen it.
Now you are focused in front of your blank sheet of paper and your pen.
Write the name or description of your idea in the center and place it in a box (I will call Prince pane). Now write all the words, objects, expressions, and situations that you can connect the idea seems to hinge (I will call second-level ideas). Prince then link them to the box with lines. Now go on, writing new situations, words or situations that are connected to the ideas and connect them level.
After an hour of work you have filled the paper with ideas of the tenth, eleventh and twentieth level the idea completely foreign prince, but not for this nonsense (all the rest come from the same matrix). As you can see the idea
prince will be able to extrapolate a myriad of secondary ideas that you can use to develop it, make sense and create the structure of the story you want to write.

Then you can make a choice and act in two ways.

 • Begin to write in any ideas that came to mind and discarding it as they find them, based on the feeling that you will;
 • Please review the scheme and eliminate existing mental ideas that seem inappropriate ;

I recommend the first method because the impressions perceived with the aid of the mental map is very different from those that will live as we write.

Here you can see the mental map that I have spread my story to write noir "Parisian night."

Now, to make it clear how this mental process, we will go together to create a mental map.

Take for example the idea that no one I proposed in the previous article.

write in the middle of the sheet the key idea that he gave away to all that: library.

Now we start the connections.

 • Luke is the hero;
 • there is dust on the bookshelf.

Well, INSERTED these considerations are ideas for the second level.

continue.

 • Luke runs his hand on the backs of books;
 • E 'in a moment of sadness;
 • Each book has a story;
 • The library is an anthology of Pablo Neruda;

And then

 • Luke thinks that books are like memories;
 • Pablo Neruda's book reminds him of an important story. The story of a love.

So far nothing new. Now we begin to fly the mind.

 • The book reminds Greta;
 • Now Greta is in Argentina to work
 • She has left before leaving because he could not stand the idea of distance;
 • While studying he worked as a saleswoman in a bookshop;
 • Neruda's book was the spark of their meeting;

Lets try it again a passage:

 • Greta loves poetry
 • Luke has learned the poems in the original language to able to achieve,
 • Luke decided to go to go and look;
 • Greta has a boyfriend Argentinean

I could go on for hours but it is better to stop here.

With just ten minutes of work we managed to reach the fifth level of ideas and to create a pattern to guide us in writing.

NB. The plot is only a guide, a hypothesis is nothing fixed or established. Always let the writing and feelings to guide you in your choices.

Now you try writing a mind map of your winning idea!

How Long Does It Take To Adopt A Pet

Article 2 - To give a shape to ideas

The article is the path from the abstract to the creation and drafting of a text that revolves around that or take the opportunity to evolve independently.

Between saying and doing ...

In the previous article I talked about how we should start drafting a text from a simple idea, without worrying too much about the goal of asking length or effectiveness.
In this article we'll investigate this issue.

Let's say that you have found the winning idea, you have thought a bit 'over and now we both decided to write something. How to move from theory to practice?

to explain directly to help you experience this creative process I will propose three exercises to do with me, which then compare the results. These are three ideas that I propose banal, on which I challenge you to write ten lines on a sheet of Word (font size 11).
After writing you can read what I've created, and from there whether you were best, brightest, or you have sinned at some point. Write to year-end impressions experienced during the writing and the conclusions that you draw. Before

to spend the first year I would like to show you some "rules" to follow during the course:

· Relax and concentrate on the idea that is proposed;
· Feel free to write what you want;
• Do not think too much about what you write, let the words to flow freely in
• Do not dwell too much to give a structure to what you're writing. You do not need, this exercise is intended to establish the mental process;
· Be imaginative, mind you fly, have fun;
· Write what comes to mind at that moment, not think, the important thing is to follow the stream of consciousness ;

First idea

Now, while I'm writing this I am at home, sitting at the table in the living room. In front of me there is a library.
The first idea is this: write 10 lines of text that has as its starting point as the linchpin or a library.

we go? Go!
Done? Well. This is what I created:

Luke ran his hand over the filling of the library lounge. "There is too much dust," he thought, and he found himself brooding on the fact that memories suffer the same fate of books. They are all stacked up like a library, each with its own place, and end up filled with dust and be forgotten. Pass the index on the back of some text. The contact was sometimes smooth or rough, he knew of plastic or cardboard, in some cases the words were engraved in relief and tickled my fingertips. He thought that every book he had gained during the course of his life had meaning behind it and lived to tell a story. Each title sends it back in time, different era, different in age, full of emotions and memories and faded away, or still so vivid as to make people smile or, in some cases, also suffer. He stopped in front of a collection of poems by Pablo Neruda. He smiled. That book was bound in a so hard to tell a story that would have to write another. It all began when ...

As you can see from the simple and crude as the idea of a library can give you the "one" to a story that tells the story of the protagonist and the purchase anthology. Maybe Luke will go to buy that book in a library where the works of a contract as Greta and falls in love and so that we can fill the next hundred pages talking about their love story. It started from the library of my home.

Second idea

on the living room my mother has forgotten a block Postit. You know them all right? Are those yellow adhesive sheets that are used for remembering things to do or to mark the notes.

That's the idea: a Postit.

Now it's up to you.
Done? well. This is what I have created.

"Hello Mark. Dad and I are out walking. See you later. Kiss. Mama. "This is what I found resting on the keyboard in my computer: a Postit of my mother. Who knows when they will return. Since Dad retired they are both passionate about Nordic walking and can not stay in the house watching television. Every afternoon they go to take a ride of two hours and down the country. I have even asked to put an ad on the net "Searching for fellow Nordic Walding near Monza and Lambro Vedano al. Not that I mind that my two old if spassino with sports, anything. I've never seen so well together, so in tune. Maybe they're back in love with each other. Last night I heard them tease each other about each other's performance in sports. They looked like two kids. Yet when I suggested maybe to Nordic walking they seemed a bit 'remains. It all started when ...

Here I used the excuse of Postit to imagine that this hypothetical Marco's parents have become fanatics Nordic walking, the discipline that provides accompaniment to walk with walking sticks.
The idea then is to continue in the story describing the characteristics of this discipline, to invent an alleged race in Finland where Mark's parents decide to participate or be more tragic and telling that a drunk driving has overwhelmed his father and deal with a sensitive issue.
As you can see the options and choices are endless and every choice you make will exclude the others. And
'That's the beauty: discover the story you want to tell the moment in which you are writing.

Third

idea on the table, in addition to Postit, there is also a ballpoint pen blue, a very common brand.
Well, the idea is this: a ballpoint pen.

It 's your turn.
Here I am. Done? I do:

Carlo sat on his desk. The courtroom was filled with students, given that it was an important lesson before the exam of Mathematics II. Took place on the bench next to a pretty girl. Blonde and thin, dressed in a saucy. The professor began to draw some formulas on the blackboard and students to copy them on notebooks. Shortly after Charles realized that his pen is not working: the ink was gone. He tried to blow on the tip, to heat it up, move it to a particular ink residue but nothing. He opened the box but saw that he did not have another. Meanwhile, the professor went on undaunted, and he was losing the entire explanation. The girl seemed to notice side and touched his shoulder. "I'll lend me one," he said and handed him a pen with a transparent blue cap. Charles winced. He hated the kind of pen. It reminded him of the joke that made him Mattia Ametrano in fourth grade. The hospital was over even while Matt had been suspended (in elementary school!) And his father had inflated the barrel until it faint. How to tell the girl that since she had a phobia of that brand of pen? It all began when ...

Again I did fly the imagination. In a classroom lesson and follows a boy's suddenly runs out of ink. It happens, right? She lends him a pen, this is very trivial. Yet remember that brand to Charles a joke to him by a heavy companion at the time of the primary. A joke that has marked all his life.
What kind of joke? What happened? Will the girl with his love to pass the pen to Charles phobia? (Well, I guess I let the imagination run too).

Your Opinion

· did you feel while writing?
· The text is born spontaneously or I had to think about it?
· The texts I have written seem to me relevant to the idea?
· The connections with other ideas that I have entered seem valid or trivial?
· I managed to surprise me or I have written things that I know they've heard?
o I have struggled to complete the ten lines or I would have continued without problems?
° I enjoyed while writing?

In summary

Good. As you could see, even a very simple idea and apparently trivial as a library, a Postit or a pen, can give rise to a project and an incredible story. If you noticed
I concluded the exercises with the same formula: "It all started when ...". I put it on purpose to emphasize the fact that you can connect one idea to another possibly totally unrelated, mixing them together and creating a text worthy of being published.
All you need to do is taking the time. From anything you do not get anything .
To beat a world record a cyclist's training every day, then, to write the novel detection of next year, a writer must write at least ten lines a day. Constance and training are very important, maybe more creativity and talent.
Mozart never studied music, drinking, women went to and liked, then sat at the table and composed works for immortality. But Mozart is born of one every seven centuries.
We mere mortals need to practice, sweat and train ourselves to writing. As said disc-jockey and musician Claudio Cecchetto:
"Talent is a gift, success is a job."

Without commitment they do not give anywhere!

Then you practice with your ideas, even the most stupid. A cloud, a sneeze, a street sign, a curious episode and try to knock down two lines.
Then stop and look at the process that have resulted. If

dying to continue and the words will flood the mind and s'accavallano pushing each other to get out, well, why not settle?

Item # 2_Dare shape to ideas

Is Bad For A 5 Month Baby To Have A Cough

Article 1 - Before you start writing

The article deals with the phase immediately preceding the start of drafting of a text and helps to deal with traditional "fear" from aspiring writer.

The idea all started with an idea. This is the starting point. Be careful, I said "an idea" I did not say "a history". An idea is something vague contours faded, a thought that stays there in the air without taking shape or color. A story is something else, which will come with time.
When you start to write anything, be it a short story, a fairy tale or a novel three thousand pages of the river, triggering the spark is always the same: an idea that comes to mind and on which we begin to weave our thoughts. The classic light bulb that lights up in the head, as seen in cartoons.
may arise from a seemingly insignificant event, the lady who sits in front of us on the train, a coffee drink in a bar, a bike ride. Every aspect of daily life can give rise to the creative spark within us.
When people ask me about my books, many wonder if when I begin to write the whole story in mind. Of course not, I answer and they look at me as if I had disappointed.
When I sit in front of the computer and began to jot down the phrases I did not think of anything about the plot of the story. I just know I want to give birth to an idea. I once said: "I write a story that has as its main theme the music jazz. "This idea was the trigger. I started to beat on the keys of the keyboard without even knowing what I could talk and was born" The gentle sound of the time. "So
The first myth to dispel is that the writers start to write a story having already fully defined on every point. It is not true. A writer herself to be carried by writing, without benefiting from their own imagination when writing and make some choices, decisions, invents characters that had not the slightest thought, whereas others believed it leaves perfect and when it reaches the end of the story I wrote only vaguely resembles the one he had in mind.

Paulo Coelho (and not the first arrived) so I describe the mental process of writing in his book "The Zahir", published by Bompiani:

"And so began, for a sort of obligation - but, unexpectedly, that "thing" takes hold of me, and I did not stop. The maid tells me that dinner is ready, please do not interrupt me. An hour later, to call me back. I'm hungry, but I want to write one more line a sentence of a page. When I sit at the table, the food is cold. Ceno quickly, and I'll be back to the computer ... I no longer control my feet: the 'island is unfolding, and I come pushed along paths and encounter things that I never imagined nor dreamed. "

So the first" network of advice "I would give to an aspiring writer, is as follows:

- Do not be afraid to start writing without a clear idea of the topic;
- Be curious and observe the world around you: every aspect is an endless source of ideas;
- Pursue every idea you have with enthusiasm, all of them can turn into a winning story;
- Be critical of yourself, not all the ideas that You will be valid.

Have an idea

"An idea, a concept, an idea remains an idea until

is only an abstraction if I could eat I made my idea
revolution "
Giorgio Gaber, an idea.

If I could explain how to have a winning idea to claim the Nobel Prize for omniscience.
There is a method, a series of exercises that help to get an idea. Each of us follows a different thought process and unique, based on their abilities, their cultural background, his mental agility or the spirit of observation.
idea could be anything. You draw from your everyday life, from your experience, some travel, a situation which you were the protagonists or observers. Paul Village for example, has created the world based rag.Fantozzi on experiences in first person when he was employed by a major company in Genoa.
This means that every moment that you live could be a source of ideas.
For example, "Parisian night" originated from the vision of a piece of the movie "Casablanca" with Humphrey Bogart. Have been even ten minutes but then I realized that I wanted to write a noir, dark tones, set at that time. I did not know anything else. The fact that we set in Paris, to create all those characters, the painting by Picasso around which the events are born during the writing aspects but when I started writing I was totally unknown.

approach Initial

be critical of themselves, this is a double edged sword. Usually
(apart from very rare exceptions), an aspiring writer is a person sit on the fence, with low self-esteem and who keeps asking "why would anyone read what I write?" (I was in the same situation).
In fact the last sentence is the wrong attitude because a reader would be willing to read a book by an unknown if he had just the idea or feeling that it is un'opra quality. This inherent uncertainty
has the advantage of making very strict and selective aspiring writer, but at the same time can bring it to throw winning ideas. We must try to write on every idea that comes to mind and will be the writing itself to give the final decision.
I do: I have an idea when I throw down a piece that can go from the first ten lines to two pages of the standard Word format (two A4 sheets). Then I try to feel what gave me the writing. I was happy as I did? The words came out spontaneously? The inspiration was a savage or forced? But the most important: I enjoyed while writing?
The latter question is the most important of all. A thousand budding writers only one becomes a professional. The others are amateurs. So that one writer will make Write a means of earning a living and be able to compromise, to write about things that interest him up to publish works good only for marketing. The other 999 are doing it for passion and this means that: writing should be fun .
"is written to be read and to deceive the world," says Roberto Cotroneo. True, but is written mainly to benefit from it. I like to say that I write because I love it and because I am convinced that we must do so if he feels the need.
Who asks me advice I always say that I need to have a good feel for what I write. If I continue to distract me while I create, are not focused, I open the mail box to monitor continuously if I have new mail, it means that writing was a burden, an exercise that I was not satisfied, and essentially a waste of time. If the writing has been a continuous process, which has pushed my imagination to work, which made me happy and gave me the feeling of having created something good (it's a feeling that comes in, regardless of the level of self-esteem you have) then it means that I have written something worth my efforts.
I understand above all by a particular feeling and unique will not be able to take your hands off the keyboard. Every thought is open to your idea, the only desire is not to be disturbed, you will think to call his girlfriend and terminate the meeting with her to keep on creating. If this happens to you (the thing everyone will live in his own way, everything is very personal) then it means that between you and your idea has run established the right feeling.
So, once you've got an idea and it seems that it is time to turn it into something more concrete, write whatever comes to mind for about an hour and then do an audit of the sensations experienced. Ask yourself questions like:

- The writing was a continuous process, or I would stop every three words?
- I was concentrating on what I was doing, or kept going to the bathroom, get up, to comb through the Internet?
- What I felt while writing?
- Now that I finished what I feel?
- I am happy to have spent time writing this?
- I feel the desire to continue or I can not wait to pull it all?

According to feelings experienced (or would like to say a friend of mine "on the basis of feedback) we can understand the idea that if we were worth our efforts.
For example one of my dreams was to write a story that tells the story of the birth of house music, because I love that genre. I checked and I studied the history and its protagonists and I started to write. Every time I started suffering always the same
the writing was slow and difficult to move, I was devoid of ideas, I had the impression of being repetitive, I could not wait to write a paragraph so I could stop and read it again. This means that the idea, as I had loved and felt I was not right for me. Maybe some other writer will write the best novel about the house music ever written but it certainly will not be me.
be able to understand when an idea is not for us is the first step towards the creation of quality works.

Fear the hundredth page

E 'fear worst of all, the mother of all fears aspiring writer, the one that haunts us regardless of the quality of the idea that you have in mind: "How I to write three hundred pages with this idea? ".
A question out of place.
This insecurity comes from education school that has imposed the rule that all of the papers should be of a certain length, or are unsuitable." The theme must be at least four pages of protocol sheet, "thundered my teacher of Italian, as if you could not express the same concept in just two sides.
The first is to dispel this stereotype: the brevity does not mean lack of quality .
Take the novels of George Simenon's Inspector Maigret, for example. seldom exceed one hundred and fifty pages in paperback, some have less than a hundred. Yet they can be exciting well structured and well despite being short. Borges is another. His books are masterpieces and rarely have more than one hundred pages in length.
E 'common opinion that a three hundred page novel is much more interesting, well constructed and certainly more valid than one of seventy-five. Very often it is just the opposite. M'ĆØ happened to read books that were lost in philosophical treatises, in long flashback, in dialogues that seemed unnecessary to stretch the text just inserted. Sometimes I even tried to blow up a dozen pages before you find some 'action.
Knowing how to focus a good story in a few lines is much harder than it sounds. This is because
each writer is included in the text resulted in anything comes to mind, stretching it even when not needed. Above all, under revision, it is very difficult to delete it after writing.

In another lesson we will discuss this issue but for now it is important to understand this:
The length does not matter, what matters is the quality of the text.

When you start to write at least not think about how many pages will be able to cover your work. It 's a thought (sometimes even an obsession) of up to spoil the pleasure of writing.

publications do not have a precise cadence so the only thing to do is stay tuned!

Finally, looking at your first novel, a reader might say: "I read it, do you?"

The silence of a million passi@SoloLibri.net

E 'out the review of "The silence of a million steps" on the site "Sololibri.net"

Go to the review

Here to you some excerpts: [...]

the novel is not a guide nor a diary, is a journey through the mind of Renzo, along its inner growth along the path. Each step, every mile is seen and represented as a teaching, something to learn and remember
.[...] [...] Through dialogues between Thanatos well built, a wise teacher from the air sometimes subtle and malignant Renzo and an increasingly discouraged, lost, yet conscious of the strangeness of the tests faced by, the legends, secrets and emotions of the journey are dissected with ease. [...] [...]
prose clear, fluid, capable of grasping the mind and the spirit of the reader and make him share the experiences of a journey whose meaning will be found only at the end .[...]
[...] at the end of a journey or a reading, only silence remains, what is important is to have learned something from a million steps that have preceded it.
